Day 40 Poreč to Pula

50km (31 miles) day, 1,856 miles total.
An easy and uneventful day. Nothing much of note in the journey except for the spectacular ria of Lim Bay (see pic). Stopped at the very nice village of Vodnjan which had the largest church and church tower in Istria - to big to fit into my photo! It’s a nice place, medieval in parts with a nice feel. Not too polished for tourists, and not too under-maintained to look scruffy. It felt real and I liked it. Arrived in Pula early lunchtime. Pula is famous for its Roman ruins so I did the complete tour. Again, crazily busy this time of year with tourists. My bike attracted a lot of attention - Dutch and Italians mainly. There’s a jazz event in the Colosseum this evening so I may wander down.  Off to Venice on the catamaran ferry tomorrow. Given the crowds here I decided to ride straight out of Venice. Too hot, too busy, and I’ve been twice. I’ll get more time in the Alps later as as a result.

All necessary cycling supplies are available roadside in Istria!
