Day 29 Keszthely to Murska Sobota
101 km (63 miles) day, 1,499 miles total

Another day by of quiet riding while listening (from 12;00) to the England- India test match on the internet. Not much else to report really. The day was, of course, very hot! The road out Keszthely was very busy with traffic heading to the motorway and a little intimidating. Once I have passed the motorway junction, then Highway 75, which would keep me company most of the day, was quiet. This is an area of rolling hills with each valley/ridge combination approximately 500 m to 2 km apart. With these hills extending the first 60 km of the tide I spent the whole day climbing and descending but I enjoyed it. After the 60 km the rest was all gentle uphill. My legs have much improved endurance now. The countryside is pretty but unexceptional. The villages generally appear completely devoid of human life (and are devoid of shops and bars). I stopped at a village that did have a cafe around 11:30 and, having looked at the map, decided that if I went further north than planned, to Maribor, then I would see more civilisation and there would be more opportunity to find somewhere to stay. I wasn’t going to be able to reach Maribor today so I needed to find somewhere before then. I was getting a little concerned as the afternoon progressed as I was getting short of water (essential if I needed to wild camp) and there was no sign of life on the road. At some point I entered Slovenia. At a motorway junction at I took a gamble that the village whose church I could see (Turnišče) might have some facilities. It had a supermarket! With a bar! So I bought supplies and water and sat down with a beer to review the map again. Decided to divert a little more to the regional centre at Murska Sabota - a little further north again - to hopefully find somewhere to camp or stay. I found a Castle (that’s what it’s called on Wikipedia, - Rakičan Batthyány Cadtle - but more a big house) with rooms at 28 Euro a night. Showered and had my first (and second and third) G&T of the ride. Only two pictures today since nothing caught my attention other than the entrance to my nights accommodation and the first G&T.
