Day 8 Pont-de-Moulins to Sausheim

121 km (75 miles) day, 520 miles total
Another good day. Hot and sunny although there was a heavy dew when I got up at 6:00.  The river continued with series of small rapids. I left the gorge and climbed into some rolling wooded hills with fields on the lower slopes. White cows with cowbells - very alpine. Dropped back down to join the Rhône-Rhine Canal where I spend most of the rest of the day. Great cycling with banks of wildflowers and packs of children in hi-viz bests at Velo Ecole. This is Eurovelo 6 rather than the Loire branded “Velo Ecole”. This is EuroVelo 6 not a French national route like Loire à Velo (which firms part of EV6)- and the EU investment shows. Lovely surface through lovely villages. At some point during the late morning I crossed the watershed as the locks were now decending in the direction of my travel, rather than rising as the canal drops to the Rhine. Saw a Bar with red umbrellas, opposite a canal basin at 1:30 and, after a short internal debate, decided to stop. It was a pasta bar. 4 types of pasta available with 38 different sauces, in two sizes, served in a box to hungry cyclists. Magic. I was conservative and had a small spaghetti bolognese. As I was leaving a man and (I presume) his young daughter arrived on a great, but strange, bike. It was a touring tandem but the girl, who was about eight, sat recumbent above the front wheel, ahead of the handlebars. Amazing (picture below). Nothing else to report until Mulhouse. A big city and I though boring  until the centre - which is charming. I took a video and tried to upload it without success. I have tried to attach a link to an identical video I found YouTube. Eight further kilometres to camp and the nice surprise of a pool. Supper, two glasses of Riesling, this blog and bed. Switzerland tomorrow. 😀
