Day 4 Tours to Orleans

130km (81 mile) day, 307 miles total.
Where is my helmet? It is impossible to lose one - it’s in your head! However, miracles are possible and a new, fluorescent orange, one has been sourced form Decathon in Tours. What I lose in style, I gain in visibility! Lovely day but with at North- East adverse wind in my face at 17km/hr. given this is about my good average speed it is more effort for being slower. However, the route this morning is lovely. Slightly rolling, but through fields of sunflowers,  This region is Chateau Central! Stopped to check out Amboise, famous for its royal Chateau (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ch%C3%A2teau_d%27Amboise). Pretty impressive but, as a result, very touristy and busy. Lots of English voices and families. Mid- day finds me on the wrong track, cycling the embankment that protects the fields and villages from Loire It has the advantage of being a good flat surface, but the disadvantage of being elevated and exposed to the wind. Got back on the route at Chaumomt-Sur-Loire and stopped for something refreshing. Would have liked to make a sandwich for lunch but, of course, every shop closed for lunch and can’t get bread. very nice Chateau though https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ch%C3%A2teau_de_Chaumont

  1. Me again...I’m puzzled as to how you managed to lose your helmet, but at least it’s not your wallet, mobile phone or pilgrimage record. Keep posting the amazing pictures...I’m envious of the adventure but not of the effort required. Derek
