Day 2 Chateaubriand to Angers

108km (68 mile) day, 149 total. Great nights rest after  pizza and some Breton Cidre. Cidre came in 25cl or 75cl sizes- went for the small given I was dehydrated. Up early for a look around. Quite nice but not special. The Chateau not impressive but a nice church in the centre. Odd mix of mediaeval half-timbered buildings with modern. On departure the morning was spent reaching the Loire at Ancenis. Country still very rural, villages apparently unoccupied and not served by shops. Had to make do with the croissants I grabbed by the hotel. Valleys much more gentle than before. Wide and shallow with lazy, water lily covered, streams at the bottom. Occasional shady (very welcome) cycle track through woods.

Reached Ancenis without incident. Checked the Loire was where it should be and went looking for lunch! Found a nice spot and had the Plat de Jeur with beer. Met an English cycling couple, Louis and Fran, who were cycling very lightly equipped (basically a credit card). We agreed to try to find a bar showing the England vs Sweden game at 4:00. Unbelievably we found one (empty with TV off) whose staff kindly accommodated us. Easy win and great fun to watch. Camped by the Loire and was joined by three Belorussian cyclist who set up camp by me. To tired to go looking for a TV for the Croatia game, so followed it on the BBC.  My camping friends went off and returned at some unknown hour completely drunk and very loud. 😕
