Day 19 Vienna

10 km (6 miles) day, 1,188 miles total
Rode the short way from the campground into Vienna. Dropped the bikes and bags at the really nice (and cheap) apartment Tom and I had found. Had a day sightseeing. Really enjoyed the amazing architecture (although some buildings are a bit too fancy for my taste). Also buildings too big to capture except in panorama mode. One if the touching things I saw were small plaques on the pavement outside apartment blocks. They contain the names of the occupants who died in the Holocaust. The top left one in the picture says “Remember for the future” (according to Google translate). Went to see the Klimt Beethoven Frieze at The Secession. I really like Klimt.  Lunch at the Naschmarkt and an afternoon just wandering. Found a amazingly busy gelateria with many luscious choices. The girls in Canada should have the pleasure of judging between here and Dubrovnik on ice cream fabulousness! Had a great evening with Tom. Sadly the last as he has to continue towards Budapest tomorrow. Great kebab, several Aperol Spritz and two Schnitt beers. Talked nonsense until nearly midnight. Chatted by phone to my friend John Whitehead. A good day.

  1. Hi Phil. Looks like you’re all prepped up for Lindsay’s visit, and the weather looks excellent. The ice cream tub looks mouth watering but the blisters rather spoil the effect! The grey Chanel building looks amazing. Derek
